We tend to go mainly to the Western countries - usually far far away. We've been to Mexico, Dominican Republic, Brazil, etc. Thought it would be quite exciting to go to the other side of the globe - to the East. We made a trip to a major culture centre and Europe's third largest city - Saint Petersburg (sometimes called Petrograd). The Unpleasant bit before our journey was the fact that we had to have an invitation and (obligation to) pay 100 dollars for visa. It scared us a bit. On the other hand, you have to pay for almost everything nowadays.
Petrograd's beauty depends pretty much on the weather. In general, everybody feels cheerful and all around you it seems to be brighter and happier when it's not raining. We can make the judgement because it rained the first part of our stay and it was sunny for the rest of our stay. The difference was huge!
We really recommend to visit the boulevard, which is the busiest part of the city. There's a vast number of shops, restaurants, clubs and discos where you can have a good night out. The clubs are at standard level. We visited just two of them - the first was a tiny club and the second one was more like a disco club. Judging from girl I met - they are simply beautiful or at least I just came across really pretty ones.
And where to go when you've got enough of clubs and simply need to go out? You shouldn't miss the cruiser Aurora, which played an important role in the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917. On the night of October 25-26 1917, it fired a blank shot at the Winter Palace, giving the signal to the rebellious workers, soldiers and sailors of the city to storm the palace. That moment triggered a dramatic episode in Russia's history and was the start of over 70 years of Communist leadership. The Winter Palace is opposite the cruiser and it's really worth seeing. The third place you should go to is Peter's courtyard. The residency of Peter II. You can find there wonderful fountains, Amazony park and fresh coastal wind...
