We would like to introduce you great erotic art photographer Stefan Grosjean. Read more about this interesting man from Switzerland in the following interview. We in Watch4beauty are quite amazed with Stefan’s photos!
Please introduce yourself, give us a brief bio, tell us where you’re from, and how you got started in the field.
My name is Stefan Grosjean and I’m an erotic art photographer from Switzerland, Europe. Nowadays I travel a lot and work worldwide. Originally I started my creative career as a musician, then I tried my luck as a writer and now I’m mostly a photographer.
How would you describe your work, your style?
I think in my portfolio you can see different styles. One thing I consider a trademark of mine is on-location photography with studio image quality and with a low light feeling at the same time. Another thing I like to do is play with what I call “compositions of harmonic lines.”
Could you tell us about your career? A favorite project you worked on? Toughest Project? Any current or future projects you’d like to share with us?
I began doing nude photography years ago because I wanted to make a statement. When broadband internet became available around the turn of the century it seemed like almost everybody was watching porn or online erotica, nevertheless the women working in this field were often still looked down upon. Men were watching erotica in the safety and the anonymity of the internet, but the women in the photos and videos were exposed and had to suffer all kinds of discrimination. So my message was (and still is): “If you treat those women bad, you might as well treat me bad.” And they did. Soon I was fired from my position as a teacher and now I’ve got a big stamp on my forehead that says “pervert”. I consider this to be a part of my role as an artist.
What genres of art are you particularly interested in?
Lots: Literature, Movies, Music, Photography, Poetry, and the art of thinking differently.
Could you tell us about your process? What does your workflow look like?
Usually there are weeks of preparation for every shooting I do. I spend a lot of time searching for models and locations. I also spend hours at home in my studio doing experiments with light. And then, on the actual day of the shooting, I spend hours setting up the light. Then there’s the shooting with the model and after that it takes weeks until I’m done selecting the best shots and editing them in Photoshop.
How do you come up with such great concepts and effects? Any tips on idea generation?
I think it’s simply a question of how much effort you put into each work of art. I don’t consider myself to have talent, but I invest an insane amount of time, money and energy into my photos. So my tip would be this: Even if you’re a beginner with no great results to show yet, years of work can take you there. As for idea generation I would say: Start with what you love. Maybe the best idea is not something you have to “generate”, maybe it’s already there in front of you.
What are your favorites of your own images? Can you tell us why?
My own favorites are somewhat different from my most popular images. I like photos with shadows, photos that have a late night feeling, but my most popular and successful images are brighter and more high-key.
Thank you for participating in this interview!
